About Jozua
Welcome to my site! I was named Jozua after my father, though I’m perfectly fine with Joshua. My family name might seem unusual to some—my paternal grandfather was a young boy when his family emigrated from The Netherlands to South Africa in the early 20th century. And here I am: Jozua van der Lugt, or Joshua from the Air. It’s a pleasure to meet you.
With 35 years of experience in acting, teaching, and the media, my journey has taken me from Cape Town to Johannesburg, Seoul, and Beijing, before returning to Cape Town, where I currently reside.

As a fluent speaker of both English and Afrikaans, I offer online English conversation lessons, especially for non-native speakers. I also welcome individuals looking to practice their Afrikaans skills.
For several years, I have been translating television drama scripts for dubbing purposes, primarily working with original Turkish dramas. In these projects, I was commissioned to translate English versions of the scripts into Afrikaans. I have also worked on Spanish and Portuguese TV dramas. Additionally, I have translated the final recorded Afrikaans scripts back into English for subtitle use.
With over six years of experience as a sub-editor at a daily newspaper, I’m accustomed to tight deadlines and would be happy to discuss your proofreading and editing needs.
